A series of paintings by artist Yana Dmitrieva
Through the metaphor of boundless space and a diversity of gestures, Yana Dmitrieva invites the viewer to feel both the discomfort and the hope that accompany immigration as a personal and collective experience. This body of work becomes a universal story about a turning point when we must let go of our old selves and, with trembling yet steadfast hearts, step into the unknown while preserving our identity. At its core lies the moment when mind and body live out two different scenarios. Each canvas is not so much a portrait of individual fates as a series of metaphorical sketches of an inner drama, in which reason, body, and will engage in their secret dialogue. The artist does not fixate on discrete episodes or narratives but seeks to reveal the very nature of choice—fluid, ambiguous, and internally torn. This series speaks to all who, beyond the familiar, seek new anchors yet fear to release the old: to immigrants, to travelers, and to each of us when we stand before our own pivotal decisions. read more
